Parallels was the first virtual machine product to market for the Intel based Macintosh computers. With it, you can run Windows, DOS, OS2, Linux or just about any other x86 based operating system on your Intel Mac. Then, VMWare released their Fusion for Mac and we had two different options to choose for running other operating systems on our Intel Macs at near native speed.
Well, now there is a third option from Sun Microsystems—and it is FREE. Sun xVM VirtualBox is what they are calling it and it can be downloaded for free. It has surpassed five million downloads already. Their site says it's free for personal or evaluation use, implying that businesses probably have to pay some fee to use it commercially. But, for us home users—it's free.
Check it out at Sun.com.
