The announcement this week that Apple would no longer be attending any MacWorld Expos after the January 2009 expo has some people upset or frustrated. There is speculation that it has something to do with Steve Jobs' health - no, I don't think that. Others think it may be due to the fact that Apple wants it's own schedule for releasing products and I must agree with this. The main problem I have seen with the last few MacWorld Expos is that the analysts start "predicting" what Steve Jobs will release or announce at these events. The problem is that their ideas are so far out that when MacWorld hits and Apple does not release the mythical item the analysts were predicting, the stock value tanks.
By eliminating this whole guessing game with these long-in-advanced, pre-announced expos, Apple will have greater control over its own product announcements and product schedules. The 12 months of guessing games will be over because the only time Apple will announce a new product is when it sends out an invitation two weeks in advance of the announcement, maybe even less. I predict that Apple will also cease to announce new products at WWDC, further eliminating a known date for analysts to speculate on. Yep, when a new product is ready to be released, the press will just get an invitation. No more large windows of time for analysts and fans alike to stoke the fire of product rumors.
