Seagate Rolls out 3TB External HDD

Well, how timely for me! My 1TB drive is just about at capacity this week. I was wondering what I was going to do. Buying a 2TB seemed like my only choice. I already have too many other drives attached to my system and did not want to manage yet another cable and power cord. Seagate announced this week a 3TB external desktop drive. Sweet! This will keep the collection building for a longer time before I need to purchase yet another drive. My only problem is that I need to buy two: one to hold my music, movies & TV shows and another to back it up.

From Seagate.com site:

The high-capacity desktop hard drive that's easy to use and easy to upgrade.

  • Features USB 2.0 plug-and-play connectivity
  • Ensures automatic continuous backup and protects your privacy with powerful encryption software
  • Lets you upgrade to a faster interface to increase your transfer speeds when paired with another GoFlex Desk desktop adapter
  • Includes an illuminated capacity gauge
I'm a little disappointed in their warranty, however. Usually you get a 5 year warranty on a Seagate drive. I guess  they don't have as much confidence in this one as it only has a 2 year warranty.

Seagate offers three different adapter options to upgrade the speed transfer of the drive which comes with USB 2.0 by default. You can add a Firewire 800 adapter (up to 2x faster than USB 2.0) for $50. The USB 3.0 adapter is only $40 while there is also an $80 USB 3.0 w/PCI USB 3.0 Card to upgrade your PC to handle USB 3.0 as well (I'm assuming this is for Windows users only - even if the PCI card was compatible with the Mac it would only be applicable on the Mac Pro).

Check out the new drive and keep downloading those movies and TV shows from legal sources!
