AOL Desktop

As I mentioned in my first post on this blog, I started my online computing fun with America Online via GeoWorks Ensemble on my PC. Back then it was called America Online and often referred to as AOL for short. Now, it's just AOL. Well, as Apple's Mac market share dwindled over the years, the AOL support for it did as well. But, recently AOL came out with a new version of their AOL Desktop for Mac OS X.

Do you need AOL Desktop for Mac OS X? Not really. It's fun to use for nostalgic reasons, maybe, but it's just a portal to the AOL portal on the web. I did note that it loads the AOL web pages very fast. The toolbar at the top provides nice, big buttons for visiting the key areas of the AOL site. If you access the web like most of us now a days you don't need AOL's dialup features. Essentially I see this new AOL Desktop client as a web browser from AOL with integrated toolbar and mail for AOL services.

Check it out at AOL.com for yourself. It is a simple drag install!
