Okay, the fact that the MobileMe and iPhone 2.0 launch was, by Apple's standards, completely botched is one complaint. However, it was a headache I was willing to put up with considering I work within the IT industry and I know that complex upgrades such as this can be troublesome. Things happen. But, what I saw today really ticked me off. My daughter was using our Linux machine and wanted to check her mail. Normally she just opens www.mac.com and logs into her .Mac account. But, now, she has to go to www.me.com—which, by the way Apple failed to let anyone know on their .mac web site. Lame. Anyway, I told her to go to www.me.com and log in there. As she did, it stated that she needed Safari 3 or Firefox 2 or greater (Mac/PC). Uh, she is using Firefox 2.x but on Linux, which apparently is not supported by the new MobileMe web mail. That ticked me off.
Apple of all companies should know of the pain of being ignored on the web. Web applications should work across any system that has a standards compliant web browser. Shame on you Apple.
The launch quality of iPhone 2.0 and MobileMe seems to be evidence that Steve Jobs is no longer running Apple. This launch was too sloppy—not indicative of Steve Jobs demand for perfection. But, this latest MobileMe update provides anything but total mobility.
