I think it is interesting and also a testament to the popularity of the yet-to-be-released Apple iPad that Amazon has announced Kindle for the iPad. Yes, Kindle is available on the
Mac
and
PC
and even the
iPhone
. I use it on the iPhone and it's a capable app. But when you consider that Amazon built it's own hardware device (Kindle) for selling/reading books electronically, and knowing that Apple's iPad will cut into sales of their
Kindle
(which is $489 for the 9.7" display, non-color, only does books!), it is a smart and expected move by Amazon to make their Kindle app available on what will undoubtedly become one of the worlds most popular electronic devices.
For me, personally, I would love to get my family using electronic books. Our house is small. With space at a premium, having books on electronic devices would eliminate the bookshelf space needed in the house. But, alas, the girls in the household claim they like the tactile feel and smell of their books. Hmm...maybe when the iPad adds texture-morphing technology to the glass and an odor module with puffs of old-book-smell,
then my family will want to use one instead of the real thing.
