Steaming Up Your Mac

On May 12, 2010 Valve announced that their popular game distribution platform was available for the Mac. This was big news for my son, and many others on the Mac platform as well, who would like to take advantage of playing games on their Mac without having to resort to loading Windows via boot camp. My son's experience thus far playing the Mac version of Portal (free until May 24th) has been that it performs better than when he runs the same game on Windows via bootcamp. That's good news. He has already purchased another game from Valve to try out on his Mac which he likes very much called TorchLight.

I told him to be patient and that more and more game vendors would start making their products for the Mac platform now that it runs on Intel CPUs. With the release of Valve's games and game distribution platform, I see this accelerating at a rapid rate now.

Check out Steam for the Mac today. I was also pleased to see the installation was true to the Mac with a simple drag-n-drop to the Applications folder being all that was required.
